This toolkit provides support through the steps of shadowing a student (Prep, Shadow, Reflect and Act). This process helps educators to empathize with and understand students’ daily experiences to challenge preexisting notions or biases. This “Shadow a Student Challenge” also encourages educators to leverage their reflections on the experience to inform actions that can be taken within their school context to improve students’ experiences.
Teams can use resources in this workbook to plan and execute student shadowing to gain a deeper and more authentic understanding of educational challenges that students face. Teams can use these resources to highlight and include the student experience in understanding the problem
