Continuous Improvement teams can apply an equity-centered outline and examples to build cultural competence into their efforts using the Enhancing Cultural Competence Community Toolkit from the University of Kansas’s online resource, The Community Toolbox.

The outline provides step-by-step instructions to assess strengths, identify priorities, and choose inclusive actions to increase respect, effectiveness, and goal alignment. Some actions from the toolkit include:

• Defining what cultural competence means for your team and effort
• Identifying cultures, experiences, and issues
• Planning activities that achieve success

This is a great tool to help team members develop a common language and clarify any confusion on ideas and goals. Ideal for “Understanding the System,” Creating a Collaborative and Diverse Team,” and “Testing Intervention” stages.
